‘Us & Them’ exhibition, Epsom
Us & Them at The Horton, Epsom, from 3–25 September 2026.
This thought-provoking exhibition pairs nineteenth-century photographs of patients from Surrey’s psychiatric hospital archives with new “tintype” portraits co-created by photographer Emma Brown and around 50 disabled artists from Freewheelers Theatre & Media.
Filmed oral history interviews with disabled artists, former nurses and relatives of historical patients bring living memories into the exhibition. The project is a collaboration involving Freewheelers, Surrey History Centre, filmmaker Stefan Pollak, Professor Alana Harris of King’s College London, and On the Record.
