Alison Chand
In my capacity as OHS regional adviser for Scotland, I have dealt with a number of queries this year, relating to advice on funding applications, training, volunteering opportunities, archiving and ethical considerations.
My own work has incorporated my continued roles as a trainer for the Scottish Oral History Centre at the University of Strathclyde and for the British Library/Oral History Society, and as a lecturer in History with the University of the Highlands and Islands. I have also continued to carry out freelance interviewing work.
I am in the final stages of work on the manuscript for my upcoming book, Rainbows in the Windows: An Oral History of Young Families in the Covid-19 Pandemic, based on oral history interviews that I carried out between 2020 and 2022. I have also been working on a chapter on oral history, policy and professional practice for the upcoming new Bloomsbury Handbook of Oral History.
Yvonne McFadden
In my role with as co-director of the Scottish Oral History Centre, I have advised on a number of projects including, Glad Radio (Glasgow based community radio and SOHC training), Young Women’s Movement Scotland (advice, funding application support and SOHC training), Scottish Women’s Institute (advice and funding application support), Jeely Piece club (community playgroup oral history project for 50th anniversary advice ongoing), Glasgow City Council’s 850 project (advice on activities and outputs).
This summer I led the SOHC project with North Lanarkshire Council for their Rediscovering Airdrie project (oral history collection and storytelling workshops). To finish off our project on the Lost Villages of East Ayrshire, we designed an exhibition which was on display at a local museum in Cumnock, EA and the National Mining Museum Scotland. We also published the project book: Memories, Mining and Heritage.
In addition I have numerous talks on the project throughout the year including one for the National Records of Scotland. I am currently on the committee for the OHS conference 2025. I’ve designed a new class for the MSc at Strathclyde on Storytelling, Memory and History which will run in 2025. I also ran my Hidden Histories class which is oral history based, supervised 5 oral history dissertations and two oral history based work placements on Rediscovering Airdrie project.
