In Bergen the pilot project is a Nordic collaboration. We plan to investigate people’s thoughts of the future using life stories from Bergen and Gothenburg. Internationally, the total collection forms part of the Oral History Society’s project “Oral History of the Transition Movement”.
Our goal is to conduct 15 oral history interviews in each of the cities. The courses in oral history will be taught by Memoar, while the interviews will be conducted and documented by a partner in Gothenburg. In Bergen the Sustainable Life network will be our partner and will also be invited to learn about oral history interviews and conduct them. As a result, we intend to engage more people in the process of gathering interviews, especially those who are directly involved in the movement.

Why Bergen and Gothenburg?
Both Bergen and Gothenburg are tourist cities that emphasise sustainability. It is the sixth year in a row that Gothenburg has emerged as the world’s most sustainable travel destination, with Bergen coming in second in competition with over 70 other cities worldwide. This rating emphasises the cities’ general approach to sustainability issues. For this reason, we chose these two Scandinavian cities.

It is Memoar’s intention to organise the collection from Gothenburg; however, we have not yet been able to find a team to assist us there. We are still waiting for funding to be approved.
